Balancing Act

While many students head home after the final bell, Junior Sienna Trujillo’s day is often just getting started. Between being the team captain of the Poms team at Standley Lake High School, being in AP Art, Honors Band, and working at a daycare, her schedule leaves little room for downtime.

“On my busiest days, I’m at school by 7:30 for AP art or band, then work until 6, go straight to practice until 9, and finally get home to eat, do homework, and get ready for bed,” Trujillo explained.

Certain times of the year get even more intense, and everything collides together.

“Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I had practice most nights, football games, long weekend competitions, and work, all on top of schoolwork. It got hard to keep positive,” Trujillo admitted.

Instead of letting the pressure overwhelm her, she has learned to take things one day at a time.

“I've learned that you can’t take everything all at once. If I'm at work, I focus solely on work. And that same thing goes for Poms, AP art, and Band,” Trujillo shared.

Although dance, art, music, and working with kids may seem unrelated, each fulfills a different part of who she is.

“I’ve always loved art because it's allowed me to tap into my creativity. Dance has offered the most supportive community, and it’s been a calm moment in the storm of my life. Band has always given me a fresh start to my mornings, and as for the daycare, I leave the kids with my heart filled every time,” Trujillo said.

Sienna Trujillo gives value to everything she does, no matter how submerging her schedule may get.

“I put my heart into everything I do, not because I have to, but because I genuinely love it and want to give my all,” Trujillo exclaimed. “I owe it to myself and to the people around me!”
