Watching the trajectory curve of the disc as it flies through the air, hearing the satisfying sound of it getting into the basket. Although one of the newer clubs at JA, Disc Golf club has been something that a lot of people look forward to.

“I feel like there was a lack of variety [in clubs at JA], and I really wanted to make a new type of club that will reach out to more people,” explained senior Landen Lee, co-president of the disc golf club.

Although not entirely well known, disc golf is a sport that Lee, along with his co-president, Tristan Abell, wanted to introduce to JA.

“We really liked disc golfing,” shared Abell.  “We thought it would be a good idea to start a club to get the opportunity for other people to learn a new sport.”

Both presidents want the club to grow. They welcome anyone willing to give it a try.

“[The club] is open to anyone,” said Abell. “If you’ve never played it before, if you’re a pro at it, anyone can come. It’s just fun, recreational, not competitive.”

Not only is the club very accessible, but the students who participate in it are also very willing to help anyone along the way to learn and improve in the sport.

“I think everyone's very willing to give other people tips and get people into the sport,” shared senior James Brenneman.

The club is very senior-heavy, and it is a hope that there will be more underclassmen who would be willing to join.

“We don't have a lot of non-senior members, but it would be nice to see the club continue on [after the seniors leave], because it’s just a nice, fun sport to do,” stated Brenneman.

With the weather starting to turn in preparation for winter, many students find the timing of the club would hinder the ability to play.

“The club has a movable disc golf bag that we can set up anywhere, and we can set that up in the Westminster City Park building,” stated Lee. “But in my opinion, I’m just looking forward to bundling up and going disc golfing instead.”
