Let's Add Some Color

From maximalist, colorful, sticker-covered laptops to plain, sleek laptops, a person's computer can reflect a lot about their personality. 

It’s easy to find computers plastered with stickers in school. It’s also easy to pick out the plain ones. Some people use their computers to reflect their personalities.

“I think it’s a great way to personalize my laptop. It’s just boring to have a laptop just plain. It adds character. I also use it as a form of self-expression; people can tell things about me just from my computer,” explained sophomore Kai Zissler.

You can find a sticker for just about anything. Laptop stickers can have different meanings to different people. 

“The reason why I decorated my laptop with colorful stickers is because I can express my creative nature through stickers. And of course, I have [stickers] from the variety of places I visited or just cute aesthetic stickers,” said junior Jewel Cabello. “To me, stickers can symbolize the hope and creativeness that I want my personality to show.”

For some, stickers can represent interests or religious beliefs. 

“I have stickers on my laptop because they are religious, and I look at them and they give affirmations throughout the day, not only to me but possibly to other people as well,” mentioned sophomore Maggie Chandler. “The stickers really just have a meaning to me religious-wise. They represent me as a person and a Christian, they may help other people too.”

Some people prefer not to use stickers and like a plain laptop.

“I don't like stickers on my laptops because I think they look messy,” stated Aashika Kumari. “The clean aesthetic of my laptop is what I like, but also the professional cleanness of having no stickers on a laptop.” 

Computer stickers could be a hassle for some people, so they avoid changing the decals.

“I have not [removed stickers], I have left them alone,” said Cabello. “I didn’t want to have sticker residue on my laptop. I also didn’t want to waste all those stickers.”

The same stickers all the time can get boring. They can also get damaged over time, but a new set of decals can be exciting.

“I've changed a lot of my stickers, mainly because they just got so damaged that you can't even tell what they are. Sometimes I like to give some of my stickers to friends,” Zissler stated.

Laptops can be difficult to maintain, with or without stickers. However, having no stickers can make it a little bit easier to upkeep. 

“Laptops are easier to maintain because they give you the flexibility to clean the surface more easily, prevent sticky residue buildup, and avoid potential overheating issues that can occur if stickers block the ventilation area,” Kumari explained. 

People with sticker-filled computers can think differently about plain laptops because of how different they are. 

“I don’t really like plain laptops much. I just think they’re boring. They have no character and no backstory. It’s just a blank canvas waiting to be painted on,” Zissler stated.

Others don’t mind the difference in how the computers look.

“I don’t mind plain laptops. I think it’s all about the individual and if they want their laptop plain, then they should do what they want,” Chandler mentioned. 

Whether laptops are covered in stickers or plain, the computers can still represent someone. 

“My stickers are great conversation starters. I’ve made a bunch of friends just from talking about my stickers,” Zissler commented.
