Chilling out in the senior lounge, going to a park on your off block, reflecting on your high school career, senioritis, and enjoying it while it lasts. The last year for our Jefferson Academy graduating class of 2025 is finally coming to an end faster than ever. Some have been here since kindergarten all the way to 12th grade. It is their time to say their goodbye, but don't make it sad, it is very well deserved. They have some great advice and experiences that they would love to share.
“Do not procrastinate or overthink it, just, like, try to work at it slowly,” says Sofia Myers, a senior.
Seniors at JA have a lot going on around them inside and outside of school which often makes it difficult to do schoolwork. Remembering to take it slow is very important and so is taking less of a workload.
Lola Damers, a senior, shares, “Don't put your math and science class together. Just don't do it, either have too many essays or too much math. Don't put them together.”
Trying to find a college can be very difficult and challenging when looking for exactly what you want. And wanting to reach your dreams of what you want to be as well.
Sarvesh Satheesh Kumar shares, “It's hard to find what you are passionate about, but once you have that moment where you discover your passion, pursue it. Do not let anything stop you from reaching your goal and push harder than everyone else to achieve it.”
A lot of people start thinking about college the moment they get into high school which is good in its own way, but when should a student start thinking about college?
Myers shares, “It's probably junior year because that's when we started getting into it, because, like, in freshman and sophomore year, I was trying to figure out how to navigate high school, and then, like, junior and senior year, I'm, like, navigating college.”
When making choices it is important to focus on yourself and not what others think, especially when thinking of college and even continuing the high school journey.
Myers continues, “Don't try to live up to someone else's standard. If you feel you want to do this one thing, then go for that, because you know for sure you wouldn't get it if you don't try and, like, always have a backup so I have, like, 3 options.”
One thing that is difficult for all seniors is the change in social groups and all of life.
Making new friends is fun but not always easy so it will be something to miss.
Kumar shares, “Overall I am pretty excited. I will miss my friends, the teachers, my coaches, and the JA environment. But I am definitely excited to experience something new and keep moving with life.”
While students are leaving and entering high school it is important to see the good in school.
Kumar finishes with, “It is okay to have fun in class and in school as long as you are respectful; don’t stress to the point you don’t have fun. But remember, if you want to be able to enjoy the day at school and talk with your friends and have a blast, you need to work hard at home. Be prepared to work behind the scenes if you want to be able to have fun at school.”
