Spectacular Showcase

Hanging finished paintings up in the art gallery one last time, hearing the echoes of students singing in the vestibules, students expressing themselves and what they love. Welcome to the art hallway at Jefferson Academy, where there is never a dull moment passing by.

To finish off the year, both Drama Club and the AP Art students are finally showcasing the pieces that they’d been working on for so long, whether it’s singing, acting, painting, or designing, they are proud that their hard work has paid off.

“Honestly, this year’s Drama Club Showcase was probably one of the years that I saw the students really have the time, and take the time, to be prepared,” explained Ms. Grace, the performing arts teacher. “We did it at a different time of year than we’ve ever done before, and I think it worked really well and we will do that again.”

Drama Club students performed many things on the 18th of April, after practicing for a long time.

“We’ve been practicing since late December/early January,” shared junior and Drama Club President Abigail Goltz.

While things went really well, there are always things to improve upon for next year and to branch out to.

“I would have loved to see maybe a few more monologues or scenes as opposed to just songs,” Ms. Grace commented. “The songs were great, but I would love to kind of get a better balance if possible.”

Drama Club is always open to new members, and would love to welcome people into their family.

“Don’t be afraid of being on stage, it’s so much fun,” stated Goltz. “After a show, there’s this bonding between everybody. You’ll never really be a part of the group unless you try to, and if you’re thinking of joining Drama Club, please do, it is so much fun!”

So many people were able to open some doors and experiment with things for the show, and lots of people loved watching the performances.

“I would like to congratulate all the performers on one of the best showcases we’ve had in a really long time,” said Ms. Grace.

Coming up a bit later in the year, the seniors in AP Art have been preparing to showcase their pieces and get their final critiques.

“This is my favorite show of the year, I love it so much!” exclaimed art teacher Mrs. Garcia. “I’m so proud of everyone and all the hard work that the seniors have put into this.”

Art can be very subjective, which is why it is difficult for any teacher to put a number on these amazing works.

“It’s hard for me to grade the AP artists at this point, because I just see all the love, and blood, sweat, and tears pouring out of them,” shared Mrs. Garcia.

As the year comes to a close, it is hard to start saying goodbye to the seniors whom many look up to.

“It brings me to tears how proud I am of them,” explained Mrs. Garcia. “I kind of want to fail all of them because I don’t want them to go! I am constantly inspired by these five [senior] artists, they’ve taught more than they’ll ever know and I am so grateful for that.”
