Super Spirit
You came to school in pajamas one day, you dressed like Adam Sandler the next, and you were ready for the movie night!
It’s Monday, September 29, 2025, and you were looking forward to homecoming. You came to school in pajamas one day, you dressed like Adam Sandler the next, and you were ready for the movie night!
“The Spirit Days [were]: Monday [was] pajama day, Tuesday [was] Jersey day, Wednesday [was] the class colors with J.H. being green, Freshman being orange, Sophomores being the best color (purple), Juniors are blue, Seniors get to let out their zest a little bit and wear pink, and the staff are black and gold. Then, Thursday [was] Adam Sandler day… and Friday [was] Beach Day. The dress code [was] still enforced!” explained Finley Bullis, a senior at JA. Each day had a theme and a thrill that you could bring to the school! Ms. Levalley, who is the adult supervisor of Student Government, was asked about her favorite Spirit Day during Homecoming week: “Pajama day, because everyone can participate … I participate, I wear my cozies!”
Even teachers and staff participated in Spirit Week, which is what makes it so fun! When people participate in Spirit Days, it represents the culture of the school, and it is important to keep that up. Grace Kingen shared her favorite day during Spirit Week as well: “I’m most excited for class colors day. I just feel like more people would dress up for that one… It’ll involve the junior high more, which makes it a more school-wide thing,” stated Grace.
Many people liked days like pajama day or class colors, but multiple people find days like Adam Sandler's day old and repetitive. Spirit Days are a fun thing many people look forward to; however, participation can be lacking due to the difficulty of creating new, unique ideas. Leyna Gibson, a senior working on Spirit Week in STUCO, elaborated, “I think there are some classics, like pajama day. We have to have pajama day. Stuff like that with recurrence is okay, but I definitely think that some are definitely overused to the point where people think, ‘Why am I even doing Spirit Day?’ It's been the same. The issue is just that it’s hard to come up with new ones, so you have to start thinking about what new pop culture things have come out,” stated Leyna.
The Spirit Days were fun, but there was much more to Spirit Week than just the theme for the days. There were events! Though many people were disappointed about the postponement of Powderpuff, Spirit Week had many more things to offer, such as movie night and Peachfuzz! Nathan Harding, a participant in Peachfuzz, explains the excitement of the games: “[Peachfuzz] was a lot of fun! I definitely didn’t think our team was going to do as well as we did, but the game against the other junior team was a ton of fun to play in! … It definitely got heated and intense during the junior game, but it was a lot of fun.”
