Electrified Election

As the final vote was cast and counted, the election results were in. All throughout JA, multiple elections were held that determined the future of decision making for all students. Bigger choices, like student body president elections carried higher stakes, with candidates even giving speeches on the morning announcements and making campaign videos.

The student body president has a say in decisions that affect the whole student body, whereas class presidents only make choices that affect their graduation class. Specifically, events that happen in the Student Council are overseen by these offices.

“I will run committees for STUCO and other events and oversee all things class of 2028,” future Junior Class President Greta Jones imagined.

Running for these offices like student body or class president can really help students showcase their talents in a school world setting. Time management, communication, and organization are just a few of the numerous skills students possess that are utilized by these roles.

“I wanted to run for this position because I have good leadership skills and wanted to represent the student body,” sophomore and elected Student Body Secretary Catherine Carter exclaimed.

When thinking about running for one of these posts, multiple things come across student’s minds. Ideas can whizz through their minds about what it would be like if they were elected. Such ideas can include Homecoming ideas, organization of how the Student Council is run and many, many other things.

“I really enjoyed planning the JA Winter Olympics and being able to think outside the box in terms of the functioning of STUCO,” current senior and Student Body President Katie Proctor commented.

Other times, running for positions and winning them mean a great deal to students. Getting to lead the student body during assemblies and spirit week events is an incredibly important role, as well as keeping everything organized like elected secretaries and treasurers do. These positions help guide the student body and can make events, like homecoming and sports assemblies, events that are meaningful and memorable to the high school experience.

“During my time at JA, I've experienced the arts, athletics, and academics, which have given me a well-rounded view of the school. I can use these experiences as Student Body President to make the most change for all students,” elected student-body president Vinam Hoang stated.
