Final Buzzer

The final buzzer of the season has sounded as the final swimmer takes their last dive, marking the end of another unforgettable season of winter sports. The basketball teams wrap up their season with astonishing game memories and growth that they will bring in the next season and the swimmers move on to new depths.

Both basketball teams had new additions this season with multiple freshmen making varsity including freshman Allison Proctor.

“I think the team’s chemistry was really good on and off the court. We worked well together and were really bonded,” expressed Proctor.

With the excitement of new players, there is also a great loss to the team with the seniors that are leaving after this final season. Senior and captain Avah Berlin shares her opinions on her final season.

“I think I did really well as a person and captain this year. Overall I do think we worked really well together as a team this season… I’m definitely still emotional but I couldn’t have asked for a better 4 years,” shared Berlin.

Freshman player Mennona Kane was chosen for the first time in Jefferson Academy history to represent the girls at the all star game where the top players come together to play. Kane reflects on the season that led her to this accomplishment.

“I thought the season ended ok. We won our first playoff game and then played the following day against the 2nd seed and lost. I thought we really left it all out there and played well. Everyone was pretty disappointed and emotional, though, because the team has become somewhat of a family,” explained Kane.

On top of basketball, many students also use the J.A advantage benefits and play sports for other schools. The popular sport for winter is Swimming. Senior Kim Lighthart swims for Legacy Highschool.

“The season went pretty well! It wasn't my best season as far as time cuts or anything, but I still did well. The whole team had a similar experience– none of us did particularly badly, but we fell to third in our league when we used to be first a few years ago,” stated Lighthart.

The boys basketball team had an exciting year as well, with tournament wins and strong performances throughout the season.

“I would describe the season as thrilling. Everything from team dinners to the most normal practices were full of energy and excitement. It was amazing to share one last season with my teammates,” exclaimed senior Liam Wall.
