A quiet hush falls over the gallery as each viewer lingers in front of the many unique exhibits filled with emotion. Moments like these, according to Mrs. Garcia, are what the AP Art Show is truly about — not just displaying artwork, but creating connections and evoking emotions.
The AP Art Show at Jefferson Academy serves as the final exhibition for senior artists, showcasing their sustained investigations, which are projects built around evolving themes.
“What the students put on display is their senior year’s worth of art,” Mrs. Garcia said, “but what I see is years of refinement and commitment to grow.”
For senior artists, the show is deeply personal. Senior Jayden Hughes described the ending as “bittersweet and powerful.”
“The show is my final triumph at JA,” Hughes said. “It sums up my entire artistic journey and the things I’ve learned.”
Despite reaching this milestone, many seniors believe there are still opportunities to polish their skills and experiment.
“There’s always more room to grow,” senior Ozzy Ozment said. “For example, I’m still trying to figure out how to better utilize charcoal and perspective.”
Meanwhile, Pre-AP Art students like junior Sienna Trujillo express excitement about their upcoming portfolios.
“There’s a lot of people with strong portfolios,” Trujillo said. “I aspire to have something that looks as good.”
Ultimately, the AP Art Show is not just a display of finished pieces — it is a reflection of the persistence, vulnerability and continuous growth of its artists.
“I am so proud of these students for taking the risk and being brave enough to go through this journey,” Mrs. Garcia said.
